Performing
We usually host one main concert each academic year, alternating between Christmas and summer. The programs typically feature Valley Voice pieces, with other musical items to keep things varied. Soundpost, a small ensemble drawn from the choir, often perform, as does our madrigal group.
Regular annual events include the Cottingham and Middleton fete in July, the harvest tea and carol service at Cottingham Church and the Christmas Fayre in Great Easton. In December we sing at several venues, including carol-singing in Welland Valley pubs to raise funds for local charities.
We also organise occasional joint concerts with other local choirs; the most recent was a ‘Three Choirs’ concert at Rothwell Church in 2023. In competitions, we did well at the North Northamptonshire Music Festival in 2024.
Here is a recording of Valley Voice Community Choir in their final run-through before competing in that festival. Please note that it is a phone recording and also as a rehearsal you will hear guidance from the musical director.
We’re sometimes invited to sing at special events. Each request is considered based on the timescale, the music requested, and whether enough choir members are available. Past events have included weddings, a funeral, a Christening, and singing in care homes, as well as performances at events in Rothwell. Notably, we were the Carol Singers for BBC Countryfile’s Christmas edition when it broadcast from Rockingham Castle in 2022.
Recent Events
Over the 2025 Christmas period we sang at Rothwell Christmas Gala, Great Easton Christmas Fayre, carol singing around our communities to raise funds for local charities and at Cottingham Parish Church’s Carol Service. Our first event of 2026 was at Seagrave House Care Home in Corby in March.
Forthcoming Events for Spring and Summer 2026
Our annual concert is coming soon, in St Giles Church in Medbourne at 3.00pm on Sunday 14 June; tickets are £12.
The choir will again be singing at Cottingham Fete on Saturday 11 July, in the afternoon.
